“Last year, I set an ultimate goal for myself: create an album of my original songs. I didn't care if it took years to do; the only requirement was that it has to be the kind of quality of which I can be proud for the rest of my life.

As such, I was in no hurry to find a producer. It only mattered that I found the right one to bring this dream to life. As life would have it, I met Pete, and we had our first session yesterday.

“Myself and Pete began construction on my EP at the beginning of last summer, after months of planning and scheming. The following 3-4 months were filled with coffee, laughs, pep talks, brainstorming, expression and a sort of creative symbiosis.

Started working with Pete today on what i hope to be the first of many projects. I can confidently say that after watching Pete mixing one of my songs I was impressed with his professionalism, wide knowledge of music DAWs and how to use them and his pure passion for new music. “Saying that meeting and working with Pete in The Dreams Loft was the highlight of my 3.5 week stay in Ireland is an understatement. If you had told me before I left Manhattan on December 2 that in less than ten days' time I'd be sitting in a Galway home studio talking, writing, and singing (!) with a very talented and caring musician, I would've ordered you a pint to congratulate you on your preposterous imagination. I'd never recorded my voice singing, and despite all my writing experience, I'd never written a song. And yet, that's exactly what happened upon my arrival in Galway. On Tuesday, I met Pete Duffy in Cafe Express, and we exchanged pleasantries at first. But after just a few minutes, the conversation electrified, we uncovered similar obstacles in creating our art--his, music and mine, writing. In a direct and caring invitation, he offered me his services; we would write a song together to explore the obstacles that we both faced. He invited me to The Dreams Loft, and magic ensued. Working with Pete over two sessions unlocked the writers' block I had been experiencing and introduced me to a new level of creativity that I didn't know was possible. Not only was I able to share with him much about my life and writing troubles, I was also able to capture the ennui I had been feeling in a way that empowered me to move forward. And I was also able to sing! Pete definitely created a calm and inspiring atmosphere and encouraged us both the entire time. He dedicated his time and talent all in the service of supporting my art, and that is truly a gift to be given. Most importantly, we also had FUN. He is great about understanding your budget and the value of his offering is incredible. Whether you just want a few covers recorded or want to do a full length album, his attention to detail is commendable. He does a great job of taking your unique sound and making the most of it. He doesn't try and change what you're doing but he shines your music in the best possible light. This may be an American term but some doctors are lauded for their bedside manner (the way they interact with patients in addition to the actual treatment). I bring this up because Pete's "bedside manner" while recording you is his best attribute. Playing and recording an original song with a stranger can be stressful and everyone is afraid of being judged under the inescapable scrutiny of recording. Pete is always supportive and positive, even if the take was crap. In addition to his technical prowess, I really valued the stress free environment he created. I recommend Pete and the Dreams Loft for your next recording project.

“I wen't to "The Dreams Loft" for a session with Pete in the hope of overcoming my fear of singing in front of people. I love to sing but haven't sang in public since I was a child, aside from the odd drunken karaoke performance. I was so nervous about it that I rescheduled twice before I eventually turned up for my session. When I got to the studio, Pete instantly made me feel at ease and less self conscious about signing in-front of him and once I started singing my nerves dissapeared. I got some great feedback from Pete about my voice and some tips for going forward, we had fun and I feel like I started my journey to overcoming my fear of singing in public by having the session. I hope to have more sessions with Pete this year, I am currently learning guitar and hope to go to "The Dreams Loft" again and write some songs with him.
